Stephen King And The Art Of Compelling Storytelling

When writing different genres, writers employ different skills. For example, writers who are inclined towards romance concentrate on the emotional connections and love towards one another. Writers of action concentrate on the tempos of the story and the situations that they present. Finally, writers of horror find themselves concentrating more on the reader, trying to will them to feel the story. If you were able to combine these three traits into one fabulous writer, you would have Stephen King.

While King does not write traditional love stories in even the remotest sense, his characters are often tied to together or around something with solid beliefs. These connections help the reader to buy into the character as a real person. In terms of action, King is the master of less is more. He often turns simple phrases or actions in to tour-de-forces of action that stimulates the mind and encourages a necessity to read more, even with one eye closed. Horror is the genre in which most would immediately place King’s writing. However, he has done so much to change the field that this placement is an injustice. King’s writing speaks to the fears or injustices that strike our very soul. You thought this was good? Brace yourself: Swirling/writing (1): time & beginnings
